FAQ

Questions & Expanded Answers

When and where is the fest?

We have tentatively set the 2017 date for Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 2pm – 6:30pm  (VIP at 1:00pm)

NRG Center at NRG Park

N Stadium Dr

Houston, TX 77054

If you decide to drive to the event, you can enter off of Kirby Dr.

As an attendee, what is the focus of this event, and what can I expect?

When we set out to throw a craft beer festival, our main focus was throwing an event we would personally want to go to. As craft beer fans, we have been to lots of other festivals, and there are good and bad things about each one. At our event, you can expect a fun, boisterous crowd, that appreciates craft beer that’s made with care and attention. You’ll find 80+ beer booths with several beers at most, for you to sample and enjoy. Often times, the head brewmaster or owner of each brewery will be at the booth to talk about what they do, and how they do it. This event is about enjoying, and learning what craft beer can be. We also select neat or interesting vendors to invite to the event, but the main focus is craft beer.

I can't find my emailed tickets, where are they?

Your tickets are generally delivered shortly after purchase to the email address you provide. If you didn’t receive them, it may have been a typo of your email address during your purchase. If it’s been more than a few hours and you can’t find them, contact Eventbrite via email at support@eventbrite.com and request a re-sent ticket confirmation, OR view the Eventbrite Help Center article “Where are my Tickets?” for additional steps.

Where's the beer list?

The beer list drops approximately 1 week prior to the event. When we release it, you’ll find it on our Festival Info page. NOTE: Our event has always sold out, so please don’t wait on the beer list to make your ticket purchase.

In the meantime, check the Festival Info page for last year’s list, so that you have an example of the quality of beers you might find at our event.

I’d like to help out, what can I do? Do you need volunteers?

We absolutely need volunteers! Please check back to this page shortly and we’ll post the link to sign up!

If you’d like to pour for a brewery, grab your TABC certification online.

What are the advantages of purchasing VIP tickets?

VIP patrons gain access to the festival 1 hour prior to general admission attendees. VIP attendees will have wristbands, a dedicated entrance at least 2 hours into the event, and in-and-out privileges. We pre-scan all VIP tickets so that you can take advantage of as much of the extra 1 hour as possible to sample all the special beers we will have to offer.

VIPs receive both a glass AND plastic tasting. Please note: we are unable to replace dropped/broken glasses so please be careful with your glasses and cups.

Will you have any special beers I can’t buy at my local store? Where’s the beer list?

Absolutely! That’s one of our main goals, and we promise to have lots of special beers at our festival that you can’t find on any store shelves, or anywhere in Houston. Ask previous attendees and they’ll confirm that our brewers bring the goods for this event.

Do you offer Designated Driver tickets?

While we encourage attendees, if they choose to drive, to arrange safe transportation, we do not offer a special ticket for Designated Drivers. While craft beer is the focus of the event, it’s not the only thing that will be going on that day. We’ll have a bunch of neat local vendors, a limited amount of free samples of local food/drinks, free drinking water, and 3 live music acts throughout the day. We intentionally chose NRG Park, so that the METRORail offers a safe transportation alternative within walking distance of our event. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

Why should I purchase advance tickets to the fest?

Our events often sell out, sometimes a full week in advance.

A large part of making sure this event is successful assumes we’ll sell tickets ahead of time to make sure it’s an awesome event. We’re a husband and wife team dedicated to making this the best event possible. We’re simply asking for your help so we know how much beer to have on hand.

Why don’t you offer unlimited beer samples with admission?

The state of Texas does not allow “unlimited tasting” events. The maximum amount of beer Texas allows to be sold at any one time is 24 ounces. We don’t like the 24oz limitation at a beer festival as much as you don’t, and that’s why we’re pricing additional sampling cards really low. The day of the festival, you’ll be able to purchase additional (12) 2oz sample cards for only $2! Legally we have to charge you something.

Can I bring my child?

Please make arrangements for all children prior to attending the festival. No one under the age of 21 will be permitted entrance to the event. This include infants. Anyone with a child will not be admitted, no exceptions.

Why are there lines to get in?

Many people will arrive early to the festival, and a line to get in to a beer fest is inevitable. The lines will move quickly if you have your ID and tickets ready. Additionally, VIP tickets will be limited, will have a dedicated entry, the VIP tickets will be pre-scanned for quick entrance, and will allow entry 1 hour prior to general admission tickets. In general, we have had over 90% of our VIP attendees in the door in 5 minutes. If you don’t like waiting in line, we highly recommend buying VIP.

Will there be any food or non-alcoholic beverages available?

There will be plenty of food trucks available in our Food and Music Pavilion outdoors, with a wide variety of food options available for purchase. Some vendors may choose to provide food or non-alcoholic beverage samples, and other non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase from our food truck vendors. Some trucks may take cash only. We recommend bringing cash or using one of our on site ATMs.

Are there any public transportation options?

Of course, it’s a beer festival! We chose NRG Center due to the myriad of choices. The METRORAIL Red Line arrives just a few hundred feet from the facility.

NOTE: Last we checked, they still list the NRG Park stop as Reliant Park.

What are the parking options?

NRG Park has tons of parking available, and they set the price at $12. Please be prepared, and bring cash. We don’t set the prices, and have no control over the charges. Here is a parking map, and we recommend parking in the Orange lots.

Why are the tasting cups small?

Please remember, this is a beer tasting event, not a beer drinking event. We encourage you to try many different beers to see all that craft beer has to offer! Our General Admission tasting cups are made of hard clear acrylic, which is odorless and tasteless. If you prefer to drink from a real glass, grab a VIP ticket!

Who benefits from the event?

A portion of the proceeds benefit the Houston Food Bank (www.houstonfoodbank.org). We chose them because hunger is a major problem in Houston, and $1 provides a full day of meals. They’re highly efficient, and we want to support them!

Who is responsible for throwing the Big Texas Beer Fest?

The event is being thrown by Chad and Nellie Montgomery, two craft beer enthusiasts who reside in North Texas. Please visit our About Us page to find out more.

What items are not allowed in the festival?

The following items are prohibited:

  • Outside food, drink, or alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons (knives, pepper spray, any concealed weapons or firearms, etc.)
  • Illegal drugs, chemicals, fireworks
  • Backpacks, suitcases, coolers, or other large bags

Can I bring my dog/cat/turtle/parrot?

Sorry, no pets are allowed at Big Texas Beer Fest.

Can I transfer my ticket to someone else?

Yes. The name on the ticket does not have to match your ID. Simply email the purchased ticket to your friend, and they can enter our festival, no problem. Once your ticket has been scanned at entry, however, it cannot be rescanned.

Where do bottles and cans go after the festival?

We are currently searching for a partner agency in Houston to help us with this effort. We’d like to recycle bottles, cans, and cardboard materials, thereby lessening our trash output at the festival.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not allowed inside NRG Center. Smoking is allowed outside in our Food and Music Pavilion.

Photography and Marketing Policy

We encourage you to take still photographs at the event! In fact, we hope after the event that you’ll post some photos to our Facebook page and tag us. Video recording equipment (not including smart phones) will require media credentials and requires pre-approval by NRG Park staff.

Intoxicated Patrons

All festival attendees are expected to drink responsibly. Any guest who is believed to be intoxicated when entering the festival will be denied entry, and a refund for your admission will not be provided. We’ll have plenty to go around, so please don’t pre-party!

Any attendee who is found intoxicated or causing general disturbance will be asked to leave the facility without a refund.
